This piece is part of a series born from Kahori Maki’s solo exhibition Landscape – Core Flowers, held in 2012.
The original drawing was meticulously rendered in pencil, then scanned and digitally composed by layering multiple textures and elements.

This piece, which radiates light like a burst of fireworks, was inspired by the forms of chrysanthemums and dahlias.
It holds a quiet strength within its delicacy—the flower, though inherently a symbol of stillness, seems to possess a will of its own, imbued with movement that evokes a sense of floating through outer space.

In Kahori Maki’s work, butterflies often appear as essential motifs.
With their graceful, curving movements, they stir the air and bring rhythm and spaciousness into the composition.
They are used to shape the space from a perspective distinct from that of flowers.
The butterfly also serves as a poetic reflection of the artist herself—a self-portrait of sorts—drawn to scent, much like the name Kahori, which means “fragrance” in Japanese.


この作品は、2012年に開催された牧かほりの個展《Landscape 〜芯花〜》から生まれたシリーズの一作です。
鉛筆で緻密にデッサンされた絵をスキャンし、PCにてレイヤーを幾重にも重ね描かれています。

まるで花火のように光を放ちながら咲く本作は、菊やダリアをイメージして描かれた一枚です。
繊細さの中に秘めた力強さをもち、本来「静」である花が、まるで意思をもった生き物のように動きをまとい、宇宙空間を感じさせる不思議な一枚です。

蝶は、優雅な曲線の動きで風を揺らし、空間にリズムと余白をもたらします。
牧かほりの作品においては、花とは異なる視点から空間を立ち上げるための、欠かせないモチーフとしてたびたび描かれます。
また、「かほり」という自身の名にちなんで、蝶を“香りに引き寄せられる自らの化身”と重ね合わせることもあります。
